The 'Clarity Quest' workshop conducted by Vidya was indeed an eye opener! Being a facilitator myself, I thought what new can I learn? But the subtle nuances of the workshop took me into a journey within myself to find direction and my true, life purpose.
At 60 +years old, when I returned to India, people said, how lucky you are retired. You can choose what you want to do. This raised questions.
Does retirement actually mean doing nothing?
How do I fill my time meaningfully? There is only so much talk, read and TV that one can do. Decades of being anchored in work and engaged with life and its challenges I felt like a kite without a string. For a time, it was fun. Ha, I thought! No accountability, no waking up to schedules and lists. Freedom! But, then I had no direction and also realised my life is too valuable to fritter away doing nothing.
I questioned, is this really freedom? What is life really all about?
What am I born for? What is my true purpose?
Surely it is not limited to being a professional or a mother or a caregiver or a sibling or a friend? And then Vidya, who is a good friend and passionate about living in integrity with your life purpose so that you can live the best version of yourself, invited me to attend this workshop she had designed! And I took this opportunity to explore.
What started as an exploration of ones needs and goals, dived deeper into sifting what was important and what was noise. We explored desires and needs, goals and purpose, aspirations and passion, values and beliefs, true fulfilment vs moments of transient happiness and of course, the biggest hurdle in all our journeys… the Ego state and its dominance on mind narratives.
What emerged right away was that we all have a working purpose and a life purpose. The working purpose is filled with wants and goals to meet… But life’s purpose - the reason for setting all these goals - is taking you on your soul’s journey, which is the deeper and true purpose.
Most of us allow ourselves to meander through life, happy with the little victories and achievements; moving from one goal to another. Education, a good job, marriage, children, fun vacations, and then next level, a good education for our kids, a good marriage for our kids and hopefully as we age some quality time with them….
Are we that easily actualized...the finding and becoming the Self in all of this?
Where is the journey of the soul? Why is it traversing earth and time in this body?
During this workshop, I found my true purpose. The compass turned and my focus. is Now I feel aligned to my destiny and my true purpose. There is quietude. There is a deeper sense of living and a purposeful doing. I am learning to conserve my energy to focus it on where it needs to be. Clarity can give you that…
The difference is like switching from watching a 16mm film from the 50s to the High definition 3D movies of today that draw in all senses to give you a completely satisfying experience… Including seats shaking during an earthquake on the screen and water being sprayed when the plane crashes in to the sea.
Anyone who thinks that living without clarity and purpose is good enough, don’t know what they are missing. It is the difference between Mediocrity and passionate flow; between existing and really living.
What do you think?
